Senior Recreation Assistant

Kingsmead Leisure Centre, Canterbury
Permanent – 39 hours per week

We are looking for a responsible, reliable individual who, in addition to normal lifeguarding duties of ensuring that our swimmers are safe and our customers are looked after, whilst also keeping the centre clean and preparing the activity areas for our busy programme, will assume the Duty Manager role for our facility when required.

£7.48 to £7.83* per hour (£9.39 when undertaking Duty Manager duties).
£15,214/ £15,926* (£19,099) per annum.

Applications are invited from NPLQ qualified lifeguards, who can demonstrate the right attitude, experience of responsibility and a long-term commitment to this role.

What you’ll need:

  • experience as a lifeguard and a proven capability for responsibility, particularly with regards to colleagues and customers
  • a mature and hard-working attitude with the desire to learn and develop
  • a professional yet friendly manner and a genuine interest in working with the public
  • the ability to remain calm under pressure and within a busy environment
  • an interest in working in the Leisure Sector
  • to be reliable, flexible and honest
  • a valid Lifeguard qualification
  • a Pool Plant Operator qualification would be an advantage, but not essential

Our Party Hosts assist with the preparation, running and clear up for our children’s parties. This includes meeting and greeting the party guests, assisting with the delivery of a fun and memorable party activity, assisting with refreshments, communicating with parents/guardians, saying good-bye and tidying up afterwards. Applicants should have a positive, outgoing attitude and be committed to providing the best service to our young customers, ensuring they have a fantastic party!

What you’ll need to be a success in the job:

Membership Sales Advisor

Herne Bay and Whitstable
Permanent – Average of 20.75 hours per week

We are seeking a dynamic, self-assured individual with previous sales experience to join our Membership Sales team. The successful applicant will maximise our membership sales revenue & customer usage via generation and conversion of leads from customers, corporates & competitors.

Locations: Herons Leisure Centre, Herne Bay & Whitstable Swimming Pool with flexibility to work across all our facilities in Canterbury, Herne Bay & Whitstable

Hours: An average of 20.75 hours per week

Mondays & Wednesdays 10.00am – 6.30pm at Whitstable and every other Sunday 9.30am to 5.00pm at Herne Bay
Salary equivalent to the full-time rate of £18,021 per annum + bonus

This role requires a flexible and adaptable approach and the desire to work as part of a team to deliver common aims and objectives. Variety is very much part of the job, with involvement in street marketing, corporate selling, attending promotional events and door dropping of leaflets to name but a few.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Presenting and selling membership packages
  • Supporting new members in the early stages of membership and working with existing members to implement referrals
  • Liaising with other key staff e.g. Gym and Class Instructors, Reception, to ensure the highest levels of customer care
  • Identifying and resolving member queries
  • Developing and maintaining up to date and effective sales materials
  • Accurate and effective administration of sales and membership records
  • Preparing and submitting regular status reports, and delivering presentations to key stakeholders as required

Sales experience is essential, and applicants will ideally have gained this from within the leisure or similar sector and have a passion for, and interest in, fitness. Most importantly, applicants must be able to demonstrate a successful record of accomplishment in frontline, face-to-face selling. This will be combined with a practical understanding of modern promotional techniques and up-to-date fitness knowledge. Resourceful and target driven, the ability to generate and follow up leads is essential. Excellent attention to detail is also required alongside the ability to create accurate records and follow administration procedures, on paper and within our in-house system.

On a personal level, applicants will be presentable and self-assured, able to persuade, influence, and have the ability to win trust and confidence. A sense of humour and an out-going, robust disposition is essential for this role. A good standard of education (GCSEs or equivalent) and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word and Outlook) are also required. A Level 2 or above fitness qualification would be desirable, but in the absence of this a demonstrable passion in fitness is essential.
